Despite our extending the deadline and making a final appeal for increased registration, only about half the number of people required signed up to take part in the Hands Across Our Green Spaces event planned for June 10th. Accordingly, we have stepped back for now and will be looking at how to improve participation levels for a possible revisiting of the concept next Fall.
Several concerned groups will still hold activities, so if you are in Montreal on June 10th and 11th and want to take part in community events designed to support natural habitats or active transportation infrastructure, consider going out to one of the following locations:
- A human chain will be formed around 10 a.m. at Notman Garden. There is some urgency to show support as we understand its fate is being decided over the course of the next few days. The event will get media coverage and the more people are there, the better for the preservation of the garden. Join them downtown in front of 60 Milton Street (Montreal H2X 1V2).
- Sauvons l’Anse-à-l’Orme is expecting a visit from the mayor of Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue on Saturday. The group is also thinking of forming a chain and adding a few fun activities to the mix. To support this particular spot, go to the westernmost point of Antoine-Faucon Street in Pierrefonds (take St-Charles Blvd. North, turn left on Antoine-Faucon and keep going until you reach the end of the street) at 10:00 a.m. this Saturday.
- Ornithologist Joël Coutu is now offering a guided birding tour of the Technoparc between 7 and 11 a.m. on the 10th. Places are limited and it is suggested that you wear good walking shoes. The activity will be cancelled if the weather is bad (see falco-ornitho on Facebook). You need to reserve your spot by email (email@example.com). The tour is free but a donation would be appreciated.
- Falaise Saint-Jacques has nothing planned on the 10th, but is part of a coalition that is holding a massive gathering on Sunday, June 11th, to support the building of a bike and walking path linking NDG to Ville Emard/LaSalle/Verdun.
