The Rules is a worldwide network of people dedicated to changing the rules that create inequality and poverty.

Activists, artists, writers, researchers, farmers, peasants, students, workers, designers, hackers, spiritualists and dreamers, they work with social movements, community leaders, cultural players, and everyday people.

Together, they explore world-changing ideas, bring to light new information, fight repression, and offer material support to emerging movements.

The organization focuses on five areas:

  • Money,
  • Power,
  • Secrecy,
  • Ideas, and
  • The Commons.

It works to build capacity and deepen global support by amplifying campaigns run by the world’s leading social movements. Its members also create content, analysis and tools to help bring more radical ideas into the mainstream.

Long-term objectives

To build citizen power – By providing means to challenge the structures of impoverishment.

To change frames and create alternatives – By bringing radical ideas into mainstream discourses.

To build infrastructure and leadership – Through a global fellowship program, access to staff and resources, funding streams and new tools for organizing.
